Visitor Information

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center

Visiting Hours

Inpatient units: We understand the value of the patient’s family and/or support person being present during patient care; therefore, VisitorInformationvisitation is available 24 hours of the day. We may need to limit or restrict visiting options based upon the patient’s request, care needs and care intensity and safety. A visitor pass sticker will be issued to all visitors who stay after 8:30 p.m. It is available from the nursing
station or the on-duty security officer. The sticker must be worn at all times in all areas of the hospital. When a room is occupied by two patients, only one visitor may remain in the room overnight and must be of the same sex, except in extenuating circumstances and the with the permission of the roommate and supervisors.

Children: Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by an adult at all times. We discourage children from visiting patients who are in isolation.

Restrooms: Visitors are asked to use public restrooms and not use the patient’s bathroom.

Disruptive behavior: Visitors who behave in a way that is disturbing to patients or that interferes with patient care may be politely and tactfully asked to leave the patient’s room.

Special visiting rules: A number of units at EMRMC have special rules about visiting -

Critical Care

Visitors are welcome when the patient’s condition allows it. Visitors are asked to use the intercom outside the waiting area before entering a patient’s room. During the hours of 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., only one visitor is allowed in the room unless special arrangements are made with the attending nurse. Visitors are limited two at a time in the room. No children under the age of
10 are allowed unless special arrangements are made with the attending nurse.

Obstetrics/Newborns

Visitors should be limited to four at one time – other than the support person and the immediate family’s children. During delivery, your support person and up to two visitors may be in the room, if desired. We discourage visits by children other than the newborn’s siblings due to the possibility of exposure of the newborn to a communicable disease or infection.

Pediatrics

We encourage 24-hour support from a parent or guardian.

Behavioral Health

Visiting hours are Monday – Friday, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday & Holidays, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Children 13 and under may visit only on Sundays and holidays.

Meals and snacks

Family members and friends may eat in the Cafeteria located on the ground floor. If a family member or visitor prefers to eat with a patient, a guest tray can be ordered. Please go to the cashier, located in the Admitting/Registration area off the first floor lobby, and pay $4.00 for a guest tray. Bring the receipt to the nurses' station so that a nurse can place an order for the guest tray. When the cashier's office is closed, visitors may pay the $4.00 for a guest tray at the Registration Desk.

Smoking

All Ephraim McDowell Health facilities – including EMRMC - are tobacco-free. We have joined other hospitals across the state and nation in implementing tobacco-free facilities. Tobacco use is not permitted in Smoke-freebuildings, parking lots, vehicles or anywhere else on the hospital grounds.

Alcohol and illegal drugs

The use of alcohol and illegal drugs by patients is prohibited. If illegal drugs are found in a patient's possession, our Security Department will be contacted and may result in reporting the situation to local law enforcement.

Cell phones, laptops and other devices

For the safety of our patients, we ask that you refrain from using your cell phone in some areas of the hospital as it may produce electromagnetic interference with some of the advanced technology used to provide patient care. You may use your cell phone only in stairwells, near the Cafeteria or in the lobby areas. Cell phones may not be used to take pictures of other patients.

If you have a laptop and wish to use it while here, we have wireless Internet access throughout the hospital.
