Careers Nursing at EMH Nursing Philosophy

Nursing Philosophy

The philosophy of patient care delivery within Ephraim McDowell Health is consistent with the organization’s Mission Statement and NursingPhilosophyrecognizes each patient as an individual, a member of a family and a member of a community around who all patient care activities center.

The design of patient care services throughout the organization is appropriate to the scope and level of care required by the patients served.

In Nursing Services, we also believe:

  • Nursing is an integral part of the delivery of health care, and an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to care results in maximum benefit to the patient.
  • Patients enter the hospital for individualized, comprehensive nursing care that will result in achieving an optimum level of healing.
  • Care is delivered through effective communication and collaborative efforts of nursing services, ancillary departments, and medical staff.
  • Each patient has the right to receive quality nursing care, regardless of handicap, race, creed, color, sex, religion or national origin.
  • Nursing Associates have the responsibility to respect the individuality and dignity of each patient.

Finally, our nursing model is based on published, evidence-based practices for the delivery of care and evaluation of our services. We continually monitor both the services we provide and how well we satisfy our customers – our patients and their families, physicians and fellow EMH Associates – in performing those services.
