Certified Preferred Employer

Ephraim McDowell Health is recognized as a Certified Preferred Employer through The Work Institute based in Brentwood, TN. Ephraim CPE-Logo-2XMcDowell Health is one of only two employers, among more than 130 healthcare organizations that are a part of The Work Institute's programs, receiving such a distinction.

The Joint Commission Accreditation

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and service facilities are accredited by The Joint Commission, which evaluates and accredits nearly 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. Accreditation measures the quality of care that a facility provides. Besides the Regional Medical Center, other facilities that are accredited are:  Ephraim McDowell Diagnostic Center, McDowell Wellness Center, Kids Can Do Pediatric Therapy Center, Sleep Disorders Center, MedSource, MedSource of Stanford, Diabetes and Endocrinology Center, Ephraim McDowell Spine Physical Therapy, Cancer Support Center, Central Kentucky Surgery Center and Ephraim McDowell Casey County Rehabilitation.

Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital and its service facilities are accredited by The Joint Commission, which evaluates and accredits nearly 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States.  Accreditation measures the quality of care that a facility provides.  Besides the hospital, other facilities that are accredited are:  Fort Logan Rehabilitation Services, Immediate Care at Stanford Medical Park and MedSource of Stanford.

The Joint Commission Certification

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center earned two Gold Seals of Approval™ for health care quality from The Joint Commission for its goldsealTotal Hip and Total Knee Replacement Programs. The Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to hold this honor. This certification means that the hospital does the right things and does them well for Total Hip and Knee Replacement patients.

Other Accreditations

Mammography – American College of Radiology accreditation for mammography services provided at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Diagnostic Center and Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital. Accreditation establishes that all testing criteria have been met for clinical image quality, phantom image quality, average radiation exposure and processor quality control.

CT – American College of Radiology accreditation for the 16-slice CT scanner at Ephraim McDowell Diagnostic Center. Accreditation recognizes the achievement of high practice standards following an assessment of the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.

Clinical Laboratory – Certificate of Accreditation: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) for the Clinical Laboratory at Ephraim McDowell Diagnostic Center and also the Clinical Laboratory at Liberty Family Medical Center. Accreditation establishes that all testing criteria have been met or exceeded and ensures quality laboratory testing.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy – American College of Radiology accreditation for stereotactic breast biopsy services provided at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and Ephraim McDowell Diagnostic Center.

Laboratory and Pathology Services – Accreditation by The College of American Pathologists (CAP) for Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital..  CAP certification is considered the gold standard for laboratory and pathology services.  Accreditation recognizes excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Cardiovascular Services – Re-accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories for the cardiovascular department at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Pain Management Center – American Academy of Pain Management re-accreditation for pain management services provided at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.  Accreditation means the program meets defined administrative, personnel and clinical operations.

Pharmacy – Accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists for the Post-Graduate Year-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

 

Other Recognition

American Hospital Association HAVE Award (2011) – The Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary was recognized in the Community Service Program category for their involvement with the Hope Clinic and Pharmacy.  HAVE stands for Hospital Awards for Volunteer Excellence.  Only three other hospitals were recognized with this award.

Level III Trauma Center – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes that the Trauma Center is committed and capable of administering acute care to patients injured by a traumatic event. A Trauma Center must provide human and physical resources consistent with their level of verification by the ACS.

Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award (2008) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized for its medication reconciliation report process. The award recognizes the hospital's electronic system for recording home medications and medications prescribed as part of a hospital stay.

Kentucky Hospital Association HANDS Award (2005) – HANDS stands for Helping Accomplish Noteworthy Duties Successfully).  The Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary was recognized in the In-Service Hospital program category for its Made with Care service, which includes sewing and stuffing pillows that are distributed to patients as well as crocheting or knitting baby hats.

Kentucky Hospital Association HANDS Award (2006) – The Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary was recognized in the In-Service Hospital program category for its Music Therapy service, which provides music and song for patients in the local nursing home.

Kentucky Hospital Association HANDS Award (2009) – The Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary was recognized in the Fundraising program category for its Ornaments of Love program.  This program offers personalized Christmas ornaments (in honor or memory of a loved one) that are used to decorate a unique tree in the Medical Center lobby.

Kentucky Hospital Association HANDS Award (2010) – The Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary was recognized in the Community Outreach Program category for its Hope Clinic and Pharmacy volunteer program.  The Hope Clinic and Pharmacy provides free medical care and prescription drugs to patients who are unable to afford health care.  With only two paid staff members at the Clinic, the service would not have been viable had Ephraim McDowell Volunteer Services not become involved to provide volunteer support staff.

Best Practice Partner Award (2011) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center has been awarded a “Best Practice Partner Award” by Courtemanche & Associates (C&A), a national healthcare consulting firm based in Charlotte, NC.  The award is based on the utilization of lean tools and Change Management Theories to successfully improve the Emergency Department patient’s length of stay, patient flow and their experience as well as improving the supporting department’s performance.

Best Practice Partner Award (2010) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center has been awarded a "Best Practice Partner Award" by Courtemanche & Associates (C&A), a national healthcare consulting firm based in Charlotte, NC. The award recognizes the Medical Center's development of an innovative approach to meet one of The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals related to Prophylactic Anticoagulation Orders by creating an Anticoagulation Clinic.

Best Practice Award (2009) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center received a "Best Practice Award" for its medication reconciliation process. The award was presented by Courtemanche & Associates.

Quality Respiratory Care Recognition – The American Association of Respiratory Care has recognized the Cardiopulmonary Department at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital. The QRCR program recognizes that the hospital ensures patient safety by adhering to a strict set of criteria governing respiratory care services.

Rehabilitation Services – Three facilities within the Ephraim McDowell Health system are Kentucky State Certified Rehabilitation Agencies: Kids Can Do Pediatric Therapy Center, McDowell Wellness Center Rehabilitation Services and Ephraim McDowell Spine Physical Therapy.

Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award (2010) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized for its Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement program that earned certification by The Joint Commission.  The award recognizes the hospital’s leadership and innovation in quality, safety and commitment in patient care.

Leadership Award (2009) – Susan Matherly, director of McDowell Place of Danville, received the Leadership Award from the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association.  The award recognizes outstanding leadership of an industry professional in a variety of ways, such as creating relationships of trust with clients and families, excellence in business management, quality service delivery and professional involvement within the industry and local community.

2 STAR Quality Rating – A Children’s Place earned a 2 STAR rating for quality service through the STARS for KIDS (Kentucky Invests in Developing Success) NOW program.  STARS is a voluntary quality rating system for licensed childcare centers.  All STAR levels surpass the minimum licensing requirements that all programs must meet.  Programs are assessed in staff/child ratios, group size, curriculum, parent involvement, training/education of staff, regulatory compliance and personnel practices.

Civic Involvement Award (2008) – McDowell Place of Danville earned the Civic Involvement Award from the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association.  The award recognizes the community’s extensive and ongoing community outreach with an emphasis on ensuring that clients maintain an active role in the community at large.

Outstanding Caregiver Award (2007) – Pat Linton, a care attendant at McDowell Place of Danville, received the Outstanding Caregiver award from the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association.

Client Lifetime Achievement Award (2008) – Edna Lankford, a resident at McDowell Place of Danville, received the Client Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association.

Director of Volunteer Services Award (2011) – Linda Tillman, director of Volunteer Services for Ephraim McDowell Health, received the Southeastern Directors of Volunteer Services in Healthcare Organizations’ DVS Award

Thoroughbred Award (2010) – Presented to the Ephraim McDowell Health Marketing and Public Relations Department in recognition of a 30-second radio spot promoting awareness of heart disease.

Thoroughbred Award (2011) – Presented to the Ephraim McDowell Health Marketing and Public Relations Department in recognition of a four-color newspaper ad that was part of the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign.
 
Pioneer Award (2011) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized by the Governor’s Office of Electronic Health Information for its contribution in advancing the Kentucky Health Information Exchange.
 
Community Value Five-Star® hospital – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized by Cleverly + Associates as a top-ranked Community Value Provider.  This recognition represents that the hospital provides value to the community because it is financially viable, is appropriately reinvesting back into the facility, maintains a low cost structure, has reasonable charges and provides high-quality care to patients.
 
Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities (2011) – Ephraim McDowell Regional medical Center was rated as one of the Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities by HealthImaging & IT magazine.

 

Community Awards

Heart of Danville (2011) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center received the Pulse Award in the Business Excellence category. 

Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce (2011) - Dr. Forrest Calico, a member of the Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Board and retired director of the University of Kentucky Center for Rural Health based out of Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, was named the Health Care Service Worker for 2011.

Heart of Kentucky United Way (2008) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized as the recipient of these awards: Largest Number of Leadership Donors 200+; Largest Employee Gift 200+; Award of Distinction for the 2008 Campaign.

Heart of Kentucky United Way (2008) – Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital was recognized as the recipient of the Heart and Soul Award for the 2008 Campaign.

Heart of Danville – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center received the Heart and Soul Award.

Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized as the Outstanding Large Business.

Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce (2010) – Community Service Department received the Community Impact Award in the health field.

Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce – Mike Jackson, president of Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital, was named the Health Care Service Worker for 2008.

Heart of Kentucky United Way (2006) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized as the recipient of these awards:  Largest Employee Gift and Leadership Circle Award of Distinction.

Heart of Kentucky United Way (2007) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized as the recipient of these awards:  Largest Employee Gift and Largest Number of Leadership Donors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (2008) – Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center was recognized in the category for Top Ten Most Money Raised in Boyle County.

The Salvation Army (2006-2008) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized with the Wings of Hope Award and was also named a Business Partner in Hope.

The Salvation Army (2009) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized as a Business Partner in Hope.

The Salvation Army (2010) – Ephraim McDowell Health was recognized as a Business Partner in Hope and also received a Growing Hope Award.

Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce (2008) – Hope Clinic and Pharmacy received the Community Impact Award.
